PPL presents: Get Played, Get Paid! Making Money From Your Music (13:00-13:30 BST | West Drawing Room)

Starting and sustaining a career in music can mean a lot of hard work, so understanding your revenue streams is vital for any new artists. Whether it’s money from a radio play, on television, or your music being played in public, we’ll be discussing how revenue flows back through to the performer and rightsholder or record label, featuring insight and practical advice PPL experts.

Round Tables:

We host two round tables focusing on how music can collaborate with complementary sectors, and explore what export opportunities can be developed. Each session includes short case studies combined with a workshop format aimed at generating potential action points.

Following the launch of the Newcastle University study at Wide Days 2019, we look at how two sectors hit particularly hard by the pandemic can collaborate out of covid and create mutually beneficial initiatives both internationally and throughout the UK.

Local Heroes (11.30-12.30 BST) | East Drawing Room

Terminal V started in a  warehouse in April 2017 attracting 2500 revellers and has since gone on to become one of the UK’s largest indoor music festivals. Organised by EE Live, the company founded by Derek Martin and Simon McGrath, it attracts an international audience and has fulfilled their aim of attracting the world’s most renowned artists from across the whole spectrum of electronic music to Edinburgh.

During the pandemic, the company filmed a stunning  DJ set with Patrick Topping on the city’s Carlton Hill and has become a strong lure for music tourists coming to  the Scottish capital, as well as a platform for the country’s emergain talent. 

Their most recent festival attracted 20,000 people on each day and the duo now have plans to host their first event in Berlin. 

Derek and Simon will be in conversation with Terminal V regulars, Kyro Grieve and Eden A Leal.

Leee John in conversation (16:45-17:45 BST | Music Hall)

Musician, actor and film-maker, Leee John shot to prominence in the 80s with the band Imagination, scoring global hits with songs including Just An Illusion, Body Talk and Music & Lights, and notching up over 30m album sales. More recently he has worked with Gorillaz, Grammy-winning Brazilian artist Jorge Vercillo and Belgian producer Plastic Bertrand. And he is currently producing and directing the documentary Flashback, a history of British black music.
