Referenced in Daft Punk’s ‘Teachers’, Ashley began DJing in the 1980s and became part of the legendary Shock Sound System – the first sound to play House music at Carnival. In 1992, he teamed up with Rob Mello and John Howard to form the Black Science Orchestra, releasing the seminal dance classic ‘Where Were You?', championed by Frankie Knuckles, on the iconic UK label, Junior Boys Own.

Ashley formed The Ballistic Brothers with Dave Hill, Uschi Classen, Rocky & Diesel releasing Prince’s favourite, 'Blacker' and the 1995 LP, 'London Hooligan Soul'. At the same time, Ashley joined X-Press 2 with Rocky and Diesel, scoring global dance chart action with 'Muzik Xpress' and entering the UK Top 40 at #2 with their worldwide hit 'Lazy', with Talking Heads' David Byrne earning Ashley an Ivor Novello award.
