The SSE Hydro Announced as Wide Days Showcase Partner

Wide Days, is pleased to announce a partnership with The SSE Hydro, which will see the leading music arena sponsor the event’s showcase programme, hosted across three Edinburgh venues on 22 April.

Open to the public, as well as music industry delegates attending the award-winning convention, the live gigs provide a snapshot of some of Scotland’s most exciting new talent and span the full musical spectrum.  Previous acts featured include Scottish Album of the Year Award winner Kathryn Joseph, Honeyblood, Model Aeroplanes, Rachel Sermanni, Stanley Odd and Mercury Music Prize nominee C Duncan.

“We are delighted to be partnering with The SSE Hydro and welcome its commitment to helping develop the headliners of the future,” says Wide Days founder, Olaf Furniss. “This sponsorship makes an important contribution to hosting the showcases and helps us to continue offering free gigs for fans of exciting new talent.”

John Langford, director of live entertainment at The SSE Hydro and SECC, first attended Wide Days as a speaker in 2014.

"We're committed to investing in the future of live music in Scotland,” he says. “All of us at The SSE Hydro are excited to be a part of this event".

This year’s showcase programme, selected in consultation with promoters, journalists and A&R scouts, ranges from synth pop to punk-infused black metal, with gigs taking place consecutively at the Pleasance Theatre, La Belle Angele and Electric Circus. The featured acts are: Be Charlotte, Best Girl Athlete, Elle Exxe, the Van Ts, Tongues and Scumpulse.

Wide Days 2016 will also include first-time partnerships with PRS For Music and the British Academy of Songwriters and Authors. The organisations will jointly sponsor a conference panel, which looks at the making of a hit. Full details of the session will be announced in the coming weeks.

Wide Days takes place in Edinburgh on 22-23 April. The first day begins with the conference at the Pleasance, followed by the evening showcases, while day two provides a range of networking activities for the professional delegates. A full convention pass costs £80. A limited number of concessions for students, emerging artists and under 18s are also available.
