16 year old Katie Buchan has experienced more in her short time in music than most people will experience in a lifetime. Recently back from a U.S. tour in support of debut album Carve Every Word (Minty Fresh / Fitlike Records), the singer-songwriter from Aberdeen, Scotland will undoubtedly be attracting significant attention on both sides of the Atlantic in 2016.

Performing and writing alongside her musician father Charley Buchan, Katie has begun to establish herself as a mature singer-songwriter in her own right. Katie possesses a voice which sounds wise beyond its years as her earthy, ethereal tone flows beautifully from the speakers enveloping the listener. Her vocals are so on point that they could easily sit alongside accomplished singer songwriters such as Aimee Mann, Laura Marling and Feist, as she constructs emotional vignettes with a laid back and elegant Americana edge. Where most artists use their debut to find their sound, Katie has produced something special on her first attempt - an art that can take many of her contemporaries’ years to hone. Katie’s vocals radiate and her lyrics impress, as soothing strings and piano elevate the music to new levels.

Carve Every Word is an emotionally charged and accomplished debut that finds Best Girl Athlete imposing herself as a serious talent and has generated rich and deserved praise with Folk Radio UK stating the release as "pretty amazing", Artrocker magazine describing Carve Every Word as "an incredibly accomplished album" and gaining a Scottish Alternative Music Award 2015 nomination along with appearing on multiple end of year best album lists.
