Alex Amor

TGE Showcases:

Thursday 12th May
18:30
Coalition

Friday 13th May
15.00
One Church

After setting up a studio in a cupboard under the stairs at her parents’ house in 2018, singer/songwriter/flautist Alex Amor spent two months in creative self-isolation and used technology to work remotely with producers.

She studied textile design at art school, but her compulsion to make music led her to London. Embarking on a creative partnership with producer/remixer Karma Kid. Amor’s conversational songs, inspired by Big Thief, Tame Impala and The Staves, are a vehicle for connection as much as they are personal reflection.

“Sophisticated dreamy pop infused with a hint of 60s chic.” - Scotland on Sunday.

BEMZ

TGE SHOWS

THURSDAY 12th
13.00
One Church

Jubemi Iyiku AKA Bemz is one of several artists helping to establish Scotland as a bona fide hotbed for Black music, proving that rap’s cultural reach stretches way beyond London. Having first fallen in love with music through childhood influences, Bemz began experimenting with making his own sounds.

His craft is a form of therapy and self-expression, so every theme explored in his recent EP, 'M4', and within the media has been in relation to situations he has experienced first-hand. Bemz’ sound is unique, his versatility is what makes him stand out as he dabbles in and out of different styles from old school hip hop to drill to grime.

After previously scoring support slots with The Snuts and being nominated for Scottish Album of the Year, his 2022 promises to be even bigger. From being selected to perform at the BBC Introducing Scottish Artist of the Year final to showcasing at Focus Wales to being a recipient of the Tennents Spotlight Fund and also about to embark on the Tenement TV Discover Tour, Bemz continues to strengthen his standing in the Scottish scene.

Blair Davie

THURSDAY 12th

19.30 Unitarian Church

Blair Davie hails from Perth Scotland. He started his career as a solo artist, recording his first record at just 12-years-old before becoming the frontman in several bands throughout his teenage years: learning and honing his talents alongside his peers. Inspired by his love of emotional, heartfelt music from artists such as Dodie, Dermot Kennedy and Bon Iver, Blairs music is his way of presenting the most honest and passionate version of himself to the world. Blairs music deals with coming to terms with his own bisexuality, loss and heartbreak; but also, the beauty that life can offer. After a particularly challenging time in 2020 he realised he had so much more to say as a solo artist and began writing with friend and collaborator Kyle Fummey in their home studio

Dylan Fraser

TGE SHOWS

Thursday 12th May
20:30
Brighthelm

Dylan Fraser is a small-town kid with wide-eyed ambition. Born and raised in Bathgate, Scotland, he had his sights set on a career in music from early childhood. First picking-up a guitar at just 12 years old (a hand-me-down from his mom, who, subsequently, taught him his first four chords), Dylan would reimagine his favourite songs, by his favourite artists, in his bedroom — everyone from Radiohead to Phoebe Bridgers to Kanye West — dreaming of city lights and plotting a path out of his small, satellite town.

Gallus

TGE SHOWS

Thursday 12th May
19:30
Chalk

From the moment they formed in a pub in Glasgow of the same name, Gallus have been on an unrelenting assault on the country’s fertile music scene. They quickly garnered a reputation as one of the best live acts in Scotland and soon took to filling venues everywhere they went. In the space of 12 months they went from filling a 200 cap to a 600 cap venue in Glasgow’s Tenement Trail Festival. Their notoriety for live exciting live shows also saw them sell out the famous King Tuts and receive a nomination for Best Live Act in the Scottish Alternative Music Awards.

However on top of their live prowess, Gallus have been making an impression in the music industry with their varied and adaptable approach to songwriting. Their catalogue stretches across the broad church of punk and post punk music as they meander into new and exciting musical territory with each release.

FRIDAY 13th

Rich of voice and even richer of imagination, the singer-songwriter from Edinburgh creates musical pen-portraits as vivid in lyric as they are in melody. In all the wholly best ways, these are chamber pop songs that have swallowed both a dictionary and a compendium of modern urban (and island) fairy tales. And, on Heavy Elevator, his first fully-formed album, this prolific artist presents a perfect ten tracks packed with characters, incident, emotion, geographical/artistic references and tunes to hang your coat on.
