Wide Days 2016 Dates Announced
Scotland's award-winning music convention, Wide Days, returns to Edinburgh on 22-23 April 2016.
Following the success of the new format trialed in 2015, the conference and first three showcases will take place in the Pleasance venue on Friday. The Saturday - open to all professional ticket holders - will focus on networking activities, including a guided coach tour, a special Ted-style talk, BBQ and low-exertion sports.
Early-bird passes will be available at a discounted rate of £65 and rise to £80 on 15 January 2016. Moreover, a limited number of one-day passes for Friday’s events are available for students, emerging musicians and individuals starting out in the business, for £25. An under 18s ticket costs £18 and covers the conference and first three showcases.
“This year’s Wide Days was the most successful since we launched in 2010, with record attendances for the conference, the showcases and the special networking activities,” says founder Olaf Furniss, adding that the event provides a great environment for both professionals, and emerging music and business talent, to connect.
Wide Days has agreed media partnerships with leading live music trade magazine, I-Q, as well as Complete Music Update. Moreover, it will continue to receive support from PPL, the Musicians’ Union, Edinburgh College, the University of the Highlands & Islands and the Scottish Music Industry Association. Additional partnerships arrangements are expected to be concluded in the new year.
The showcase programme will retain a focus on a small number of acts, and as in previous years, free tickets will be made available to the public.
Wide Days 2015 acts included Kathryn Joseph, who went on to win the Scottish Album of the Year Award, as well as Mercury Music Prize-nominated C Duncan. In previous years showcasing acts have included Honeyblood, who were signed following as a result of their performance, Fatherson, PAWS, Stanley Odd, Rachel Sermanni and Model Aeroplanes.
Applications to play at Wide Days open on 1 January and close at the end of the month.
