CATCHING UP WITH EMME WOODS
What have the band been upto since showcasing at Wide Days 2017?
Going wild and fucking shit up. But… we’ve been working proper hard. Gotta have a balance, all work and no play, bla bla bla. We’ve been working on a new record which I’m super buzzing for, I cant wait for it to be finished and released sometime later this year. We played the Great Escape last year which was a highlight for us. I also hopped over the sea to the 'Land of the Free' a few times, where I played some shows in New York and then California, home of the Beach Boys, yasss! So I’ve had quite the exciting year.
What was your favourite moment from the showcase last year?
It’s a tough one, the whole day was absolutely bangin. I think our show went fabby, we got some vegan food for our dressing room, delish! Then had a belter of a night watching all our pals bands play and made use of the free bevvy for the bands. It was well deserved I would say. I did get actual steamin and text a long heartfelt text to one of the managers that came along who was pretty sound. I finished off the text with ‘P.S, bag of dicks xo'
For anyone who has not heard your music, how would you describe your sound?
The quality of a fine wine but the satisfaction of a late night kebab
How important do you think it is for musicians/bands to attend networking events?
I think it’s pretty vital. It’s one of the easiest ways to promote yourself. You’re literally trapped in a room with the people that you want to have heard your music. Most of the time, no one really has a clue how to approach the situation and for other people but that’s the fun part. Everyone is there for the same reason as you are, to promote something so you don’t have to be shy or take yourself too seriously. It gives you the chance to have informal chats with people in the industry you might never really have got to meet in the first place.
It is no secret that you and the band are heading to SXSW 2018, how did this come about and do you have any advice for anyone hoping to play the showcase in the future?
I know, it’s mad! As I’m typing this, it’s a week tomorrow that I leave and it’s scaring the shit out of me. We got an email through from SXSW to apply so we did and now here I am, stress buying myself a snazzy new suit so I can tear up the town. Hold on to yer Stetson, Texas, am coming for ye! I think that you should try an build up some traction at home before heading out of the country then just roll with what you get, work hard but don’t forget your groove and sass.
If you could have written one song in history yourself, what would you want it to be?
God Only Knows. Yes, yes everything yes about this song. It’s history, it’s writer, the whole tune. It is insanely beautiful and tragic all at once.
Lastly, can you tell us about bubbles and her role in the band?
Queen B is the main attraction. Hype gurl, backing dancer, diva queen of the universe. She comes to every show, she’d be raging if she didn’t get her spot centre stage. Fur coat included obv.
