Shain Shapiro

Sound Diplomacy / Music Cities Convention




Dr Shain Shapiro is the co-founder of the Music Cities conference and managing director of music market development company Sound Diplomacy, which has offices in London, Barcelona and Berlin. It helps businesses, governments, municipalities, academic institutions and brands expand into new territories and develop networks where they already have a presence. 

Before founding Sound Diplomacy, Shain was the European representative for the Canadian Independent Music Association, spearheading its music export initiatives. In this role he helped produce over 100 showcases across Europe, working with 500 acts.

Moreover, he has attended most of the world's key music conventions, where he is a regular speaker. Shain was previously a press officer for One Little Indian Records and before that, a prolific music journalist contributing to publications including VICE, Drowned in Sound and Time Out.

He holds a PHD from Birkbeck, University of London, titled 'The History of Popular Music Funding in Canada.'
