Born …O levels, a levels, degree (social science) lots of beer drunk and bands seen…. Travelled to Australia and America .. lots of beer drunk and bands seen … then 22 years ago I got a job as a trainee at the BBC on Oxford Rd in Manchester.  After a couple of months moving from department to department learning the ropes I landed at job at Radio 5 where a couple of chancers Mark Radcliffe and Marc Riley were presenting a show called Hit The North – cool music/cool bands/cool chat. There the story begins … we had a live band in session every week, most notable for me Jeff Buckley (sigh).

Then we started working on Radio 1 where the 2 Mark’s presented the Graveyard slot 10pm till Midnight .. cool music/cool bands and cool chat – there’s a theme beginning here, most notable John Spencer Blues Explosion having a strop demanding SM47 mic’s not the standard SM48 mikes, and Kula Shaker running up 3 flights of stairs to punch the 2 marc’s for their piss take of Kula Shaker’s Tattva – Ta La (available on line!!!!)

Then the wilderness 7 months of working on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show … nobody really enjoyed that … case book closed.

Then the bliss full years on the Radio 1 afternoon show … where we got away with stuff that would make your toes curl under the banner of Double Entendre. (available on line!!!!)

Then 10 years ago Marc Riley and I started working at 6 Music … Cool music/cool bands/cool chat.  Bliss.
